I recently had the opportunity to work on a home built in the 90s. It had been a second home, without a rental history, and had very minimal furnishings. There were 2 black leather sofas in the family room, a few beds, and some heavy iron and glass breakfast nook furniture.
I was given a very strict budget and was told with intensity how important that budget would be. My assignment was to furnish every room: 3 bedrooms, a formal sitting room, a family room, 2 bathrooms, breakfast nook, office, and converted two-car garage, which would serve as the kids' bunk and play room.
My client was very attached to certain styles, which I did not feel were conducive to the time period and/or short term rental, so we eased in and I offered multiple options in order to find a happy landing place.

For this family room, we decided to keep a few of the existing items for the sake of finances: the mosaic vase, the neutral shag rug, some chrome and glass end tables, and the lamp. We kept the silver metal in this space and were able to make the new sofas, decor, art, coffee table, and pillows work with the original pieces.
